From a 9–year–old apprentice in Istanbul's only cymbal factory to a global legend spanning eight decades, Agop Tomurcuk's remarkable journey began in 1941 in the vibrant Samatya neighbourhood. Following his older brothers Oksant and Garbis into the ancient craft of cymbal–smithing, young Agop would unknowingly lay the foundation for what would become one of the world's most respected cymbal lineages.
Today, Istanbul Agop cymbals honour this rich heritage while maintaining their relevance in contemporary music. Each cymbal is crafted to express genuine artistic intent, bridging the gap between traditional Turkish cymbal–making techniques and modern musical demands. The lineage that started in a single Turkish workshop now resonates across stages and practice rooms throughout the world.
The Mel Lewis 21inch Ride exemplifies this perfect balance of tradition and artistry. With its characteristically dark, warm and buttery tone complemented by woody stick definition, this cymbal represents the classic sound that has made Istanbul Agop a favourite among discerning drummers globally.
