From a 9–year–old apprentice in Istanbul's only cymbal factory to a global legacy spanning over eight decades, Agop Tomurcuk's remarkable journey began in the Samatya neighbourhood in 1941. Following his older brothers Oksant and Garbis into the ancient craft of cymbal–smithing, Agop's dedication to the art has created a lineage of cymbals that now resonate on stages and in practice rooms across the world.
The Istanbul Agop Traditional Jazz Series pays tribute to this rich heritage while remaining firmly rooted in contemporary musical needs. These cymbals are crafted to handle a wide dynamic range, making them equally suited to intimate acoustic trio settings or cutting through electric and electronic instrumentation with ease.
The 17" Traditional Dark Crash stands out with its dark, punchy character that responds quickly while producing fewer high frequency overtones. Originally conceived for jazz applications, these cymbals prove their versatility across virtually any musical style, both in live performance and studio recording environments. Their design prioritises musical dynamics and responsiveness, creating a stronger connection between player and instrument.
