The Marsling Octafuzzdrive brings the legendary fOXX Tone Machine roaring back to life with modern enhancements that make this '70s classic more versatile than ever. Originally released in 1971 and discontinued in 1978, the Tone Machine was renowned for its thick fuzz character and distinctive octave overtone, created through a clever phase splitter and complementary rectifier design. While sharing DNA with pedals like the Fender Blender and Superfuzz, the Tone Machine carved out its own territory with a more pronounced octave effect and notably smoother tonal character.
The Marsling stays true to the original circuit but introduces two practical modifications that address real-world performance needs. The octave switch has been relocated from a panel toggle to a dedicated footswitch, giving players instant on-the-fly control over the octave-up effect during performance. Additionally, the tone control has been enhanced with a three-position toggle switch that offers different capacitor values, including the original specification plus two improved options that make the treble side of the rotation far more musical and usable than the vintage design.
This faithful recreation captures all the thick, saturated fuzz tones that made the original Tone Machine a sought-after piece of gear, while the thoughtful modifications ensure it meets the demands of contemporary players who need both vintage authenticity and modern functionality.
