Ibanez has revolutionised the classic wah-wah pedal with the Twin Peaks, introducing dual inductor circuitry that creates two distinct frequency peaks instead of the traditional single peak design. This innovative approach allows guitarists to blend higher and lower frequency resonances simultaneously, opening up entirely new sonic possibilities that go well beyond conventional wah effects.
The BALANCE control serves as the heart of this pedal, managing the mix ratio between the two peak levels generated by the dual inductor circuit resonances. The higher frequency delivers a sweepable range similar to most traditional wah-wah pedals, while the lower frequency operates closer to what you’d typically find on modified or signature wah units. Counter-clockwise rotation emphasises the higher-frequency peak, whilst clockwise adjustment brings the lower-frequency peak to the forefront.
The TONE mode switch provides two distinct frequency ranges to suit different playing styles and tonal preferences. In HIGH mode, the higher frequency resonance sweeps from 670Hz to 3kHz – notably higher than typical wah pedals – while the lower frequency covers 300Hz to 1kHz, sitting slightly below traditional ranges. LOW mode offers a more familiar feel, with the higher frequency spanning 440Hz to 2kHz (covering standard wah territory) and the lower frequency operating between 220Hz to 750Hz. Given the potentially bright character of HIGH mode, adjusting the pedal’s balance and level controls, or your guitar’s tone control, can help tame excessive high frequencies when needed.
