Guild USA D-55 Solid Spruce Rosewood Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar

The legendary Guild D55 acoustic guitar has returned to captivate musicians worldwide, bringing with it nearly six decades of acoustic excellence and the same premium craftsmanship that made Tommy Smothers famous on television in the 1960s. Originally launched in 1968 as a special‐order flagship model, the D55 proved so popular that Guild incorporated it into their standard production line by 1974. This iconic instrument has found its way into the hands of renowned artists including Waylon Jennings, Billie Joe Armstrong, and David Nail, cementing its reputation as a professional‐grade acoustic guitar.

The 2017 Guild D55 maintains all the premium appointments that defined its 1968 predecessor, featuring a AAA Sitka spruce top paired with solid Indian Rosewood back and sides, complemented by an ebony fingerboard and bridge finished in traditional nitrocellulose. Internal refinements include scalloped Adirondack bracing and an improved dovetail neck‐joint that’s hand‐fitted to create the lightest, loudest, and best‐sounding D55 to date.

Guild’s most recognisable headstock design takes centre stage, fully bound and adorned with the distinctive “Peak and Shield” inlay combination over figured ebony overlay. The matching ebony fingerboard features full binding with Guild’s iconic abalone and pearl “V‐Blocks” inlays, plus multi‐line “railroad track” purfling along both bass and treble sides. Set on an all‐mahogany neck with a striking walnut centre seam running from heel to headstock, the D55 is available in natural or Antique Burst finishes, hand‐sprayed for minimal thickness and maximum resonance that improves with age. Each USA‐made guitar includes a hand‐signed certificate of authenticity and ships with Guild’s premium humidified hardshell case, with optional LR Baggs pickup system available.
