Guild's Polara Kim Thayil signature model distils three decades of the Soundgarden guitarist's experience with the Guild S-100 platform into a production instrument built for articulate, heavy tones. The mahogany body and set neck prioritise resonance and sustain, whilst the oversized '70s-style headstock delivers both visual character and acoustic properties that favour warm lows and cutting mids. This is a guitar engineered around proven vintage architecture rather than contemporary trends.
Construction centres on a solid mahogany body paired with a set mahogany neck featuring a slim U-shaped profile and 12.5" radius ebony fingerboard with jumbo frets. The custom Guild HB-1 humbuckers use Alnico II magnets to replicate the articulate yet warm character of original '70s Polara pickups, with a phase switch for tonal flexibility. Tuning stability relies on Grover Original Rotomatics with 18:1 gearing ratio, a specification Thayil specifically requested. Ivory body binding and pearloid inlayed Guild logo complete the aesthetic, whilst commemorative truss rod and back covers reference Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger and King Animal albums.
