Gibson's Thunderbird Bass stands as a landmark in electric bass design since its 1963 debut. Ray Dietrich's asymmetrical, reverse-body silhouette remains visually arresting decades later. This reissue marries original aesthetics–solid mahogany construction, iconic 3-ply white pickguard–with contemporary playability. The glued-in set neck employs Gibson's SlimTaper™ profile, delivering comfort without sacrificing the instrument's commanding presence on stage or in the studio.
The Thunderbird houses dual EB Bass humbuckers™ wired to independent volume controls, enabling single-pickup operation or seamless blending across the full frequency spectrum. A master tone control refines output character. Hardware comprises Hipshot® Ultralite® Mini Clover tuning machines for precision and weight reduction, paired with a Hipshot Supertone bridge offering full intonation adjustment and variable action height. The 34" long-scale neck–the standard modern bass length–sits secure in a mahogany body, delivering substantial low-end articulation. A fitted Gibson hardshell case provides travel protection and secure storage.
