Gibson's Songwriter Recording Artist EC represents a refinement of the brand's late-1990s design philosophy: a modern dreadnought with cutaway access, engineered for session work and stage deployment. Built in Bozeman, Montana, this model channels tonal characteristics from Gibson's 1936 Advanced Jumbo via a scalloped, Advanced X-braced Sitka spruce top paired with Indian rosewood back and sides. The 25.5” scale and thermally aged tonewood selection deliver projection and clarity suited to recording applications where articulation matters.

Construction centres on a mahogany neck with compound dovetail joinery and hot hide glue assembly for maximum energy transfer. The 20-fret ebony fretboard features mother-of-pearl diamond inlays, whilst the bridge combines ebony with bone saddle and TUSQ® pins. Electronics comprise an L.R. Baggs™ HiFi system with dual bridge plate sensors and integrated preamp, voiced to preserve acoustic character when amplified. Soundhole-mounted controls offer studio and stage convenience. The rosewood burst finish is protected by a tortoise pickguard and wide abalone rosette. Grover® open-back tuners and bone nut complete the hardware specification.

The cutaway body design prioritises upper-fret access for players favouring melodic runs or extended range work. For recording musicians, the L.R. Baggs™ electronics eliminate feedback while capturing dynamic string response and tonal balance across the frequency spectrum.
