Gibson's 1961 SG design redefined the solidbody electric when the Les Paul' temporarily left the lineup, establishing a double-cutaway silhouette that would influence guitar design for decades. The SG Standard '61 Faded honours those early originals through period-correct specifications: solid mahogany construction, deeply contoured body scarfing, twin cutaway horns, and a faded nitrocellulose lacquer finish that mimics authentic vintage wear. This instrument delivers the unmistakable sonic character and playability that made the SG a preferred choice among lead players and recording musicians seeking harmonic complexity and sustained note clarity.
Construction centres on a mahogany neck carved to Gibson's SlimTaper® profile, mated to a bound rosewood fretboard featuring 22 medium jumbo frets and trapezoid inlays. The 628.65 mm scale length and 12" fretboard radius support natural first-position voicings whilst allowing higher-register passages to sustain without choking. At the heart sit a pair of 60s Burstbucker® humbuckers built with historically accurate unbalanced coils and Alnico 5 magnets, wired through individual volume and tone controls using audio-taper potentiometers and hand-wired Orange Drop® capacitors. The ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic® bridge and aluminium Stop Bar tailpiece handle tuning stability, whilst nickel-plated Vintage Deluxe tuners and a Graph Tech® nut (43.053 mm wide) lock pitch across the entire neck.
The hand-wired electronics and vintage-correct 5-ply teardrop pickguard facilitate expressive tonal shaping across a broad palette–delivering open, harmonically rich voices with sweetness under overdrive whilst maintaining clarity across the frequency spectrum. Neck access extends unhindered to the 22nd fret, a longstanding SG hallmark. A Gibson hardshell case is included for transit and storage protection.
