Born from tragedy and resurrection, the Gibson Custom Shop Phenix Les Paul Custom pays tribute to Peter Frampton's legendary guitar that survived a cargo plane crash and returned to him after three decades. This Artist model recreates the iconic instrument heard throughout the classic 1976 album "Frampton Comes Alive!" - the very guitar that graced the LP's cover and defined a generation of rock music.

The guitar features all the hallmarks of a classic Les Paul Custom, including a weight-relieved mahogany body topped with solid mahogany, premium gold hardware, and Grover® tuners with Schaller Strap Locks. Three open-coil Custombucker humbuckers™ provide the tonal foundation, while the VOS finish captures that vintage aesthetic without the battle scars that now mark the original Phenix.

What sets this model apart is its custom wiring configuration that mirrors Frampton's original setup. The standard 3-way toggle switch operates the neck and bridge pickups with shared volume and tone controls, just like a traditional two-pickup Les Paul Custom. Meanwhile, the middle pickup gets its own dedicated volume and tone controls, allowing it to blend with either or both of the other pickups, or function independently when the others are turned down - creating exceptional versatility for the discerning guitarist.
