Gibson's Hummingbird has remained a cornerstone acoustic since its 1960 debut, and the Hummingbird Special brings that legacy within reach through thoughtful engineering and Bozeman–built craftsmanship. The square–shouldered body pairs solid mahogany back and sides with a solid Sitka spruce top, braced with Gibson's traditional scalloped X–bracing pattern to deliver warm, balanced tone across dynamic range. The concert–depth profile sits slimmer than the Standard, tightening the low–end response and easing playability without sacrificing the guitar's voiced character.
Construction centres on a utile neck affixed via compound dovetail joint and hot hide glue, topped with a comfortable round–profile neck and rosewood fingerboard carrying pearloid parallelogram inlays across 20 standard frets. The 628.65mm scale and 43.815mm nut width frame a traditional belly–up rosewood bridge fitted with TUSQ® saddle, nut, and bridge pins for tonal clarity and tuning stability. Grover® Rotomatic® tuners supply reliable mechanical performance, whilst the L.R. Baggs® Element Bronze under–saddle pickup and active preamp deliver studio–and–stage readiness through a soundhole–mounted volume control.
The satin nitrocellulose lacquer finish in Satin Honey Burst complements the iconic hummingbird pickguard graphics without unnecessary embellishment, and the included premium soft–shell case protects the instrument during transport and storage. Left–handed configuration maintains all specifications of the right–handed model.
