Gibson's L-00 has defined the small-body acoustic category since 1932, and the L-00 Special carries that legacy forward as a USA-built instrument at a realistic price point. Handcrafted in Bozeman, Montana, this model pairs a solid Sitka spruce top with genuine solid mahogany back and sides, utilising traditional scalloped X-bracing to deliver balanced tone and genuine dynamic range across the instrument's frequency spectrum. The distinctive narrow waist of the L-00 body geometry produces a naturally focused sound with controlled, articulate bass response–a tonal characteristic that sits cleanly in a mix without overwhelming other instruments.
Construction centres on an utile neck joined via compound dovetail and hot hide glue, fitted with Gibson's SlimTaper® profile and a 12-inch radius rosewood fretboard carrying 19 frets and mother-of-pearl dot inlays. The 43.815 mm nut width and 628.65 mm scale length support fingerstyle and blues playing with equal facility. Hardware comprises a rectangular rosewood bridge with TUSQ® saddle, TUSQ nut and bridge pins, and Grover® Mini Rotomatic™ tuners for reliable stability. An L.R. Baggs® Element Bronze active under-saddle pickup with soundhole-mounted volume control integrates seamlessly, making the guitar immediately capable in recording and live settings. The satin nitrocellulose finish comes in Honey Burst, Ebony, or Natural, and a premium soft-shell case ships with every instrument.
