The Gibson Hummingbird stands as one of acoustic guitar's most recognisable instruments since its 1960 debut. Handcrafted in Bozeman, Montana by Gibson's acoustic luthiers, the Hummingbird Special delivers the model's iconic character at a more accessible price point. The guitar pairs a solid Sitka spruce top with scalloped X–bracing against solid mahogany back and sides, yielding warm, balanced tone with genuine dynamic range across the frequency spectrum.
The concert–depth body sits slightly thinner than the standard Hummingbird, producing a tighter low–end response that cuts through a mix without sacrificing playability. Construction centres on a utile neck joined via compound dovetail and hot hide glue—traditional methods that ensure longevity. The 628.65 mm scale carries 20 frets across a rosewood fretboard with 12" radius and pearloid parallelogram inlays, whilst the traditional belly–up rosewood bridge accepts TUSQ® saddle, nut, and bridge pins. Grover® Rotomatic® tuners provide tuning stability, and satin nitrocellulose lacquer finish in Honey Burst resists the gloss–wear issues common in live and studio use.
An L.R. Baggs® Element Bronze under–saddle piezo pickup with active preamp and soundhole–mounted volume control integrates amplification without routing complications. The guitar ships in a premium soft–shell case, ready for immediate stage or recording deployment from unboxing.
