The Hummingbird Special represents Gibson's commitment to delivering the iconic design that's defined acoustic guitar tone since 1960, now handcrafted in Bozeman, Montana at a more accessible price point. This square–shouldered dreadnought pairs a solid Sitka spruce top with traditional scalloped X–bracing, complemented by genuine solid mahogany back and sides. The result is warm, balanced tone with articulate dynamic range across the frequency spectrum, whilst the concert–depth body sits slightly thinner than the standard Hummingbird, yielding a tighter low–end response that translates well to both recording and live settings.
Construction centres on a utile neck attached via compound dovetail joint and hot hide glue, paired with a rosewood fretboard featuring the guitar's signature pearloid parallelogram inlays. The 628.65 mm scale length spans 20 frets with a 43.815 mm nut width and 12" fretboard radius. A traditional belly–up rosewood bridge with TUSQ® saddle and bridge pins ensures stable intonation, whilst Grover® Rotomatic® tuners provide mechanical reliability. The L.R. Baggs® Element Bronze under–saddle piezo pickup and active preamp, controlled via a soundhole–mounted volume knob, ship it studio– and stage–ready from day one. Satin nitrocellulose finish in Ebony, Natural, or Honey Burst provides protection without inhibiting wood resonance.
