Fender's American Vintage II series reconstructs the offset solidbodies that reshaped electric guitar design, marrying period-accurate construction with meticulous attention to detail. The 1966 Jazzmaster® arrived as an unlikely hero–originally pitched to jazz players seeking luxury comfort, it instead found its audience with surf and alternative musicians who prized its contoured ergonomics and distinctive tonal character. This limited–edition iteration layers a flame maple neck atop an alder body, finished in gloss nitrocellulose lacquer, combining aesthetic refinement with authenticité.
The neck profile follows the 1966 "C"–shape specification with a 9.5" fingerboard radius, bound round–laminated rosewood with pearloid block inlays and 21 medium–jumbo frets across a 25.5" scale. Custom Shop Fat '60s single–coil Jazzmaster® pickups deliver a noticeably hotter output than standard vintage iterations, controlled via dual circuits: the lead channel with master volume and tone, and a rhythm section featuring dual thumbwheel controls for neck pickup voice. Pure Vintage hardware–including the signature floating tremolo, deluxe tuners, and bone nut–anchors the instrument's period authenticity, whilst the included G&G hardshell case provides protection worthy of its build quality.
The dual–circuit control scheme distinguishes Jazzmaster® operation considerably from conventional toggle–switch designs; the 2–position on/off slide switch toggles between lead and rhythm modes, allowing rhythm players to engage sympathetic neck pickup texture without abandoning lead–circuit aggression. This architecture, combined with the threaded steel barrel saddles and pop–in vintage tremolo arm, appeals to players seeking unconventional tonal palettes and hands–on control over sustain and articulation.
