Ernie Ball's Earthwood Bell Bronze acoustic strings combine 80% copper with 20% tin in a proprietary alloy formulation originally developed in the 1960s and then discontinued for decades before being reintroduced. The Extra Light gauge delivers reduced finger tension and enhanced playability for extended sessions. Bell bronze produces a distinctly bright, clear tonal character with pronounced treble shimmer and crisp harmonic overtones that separate these strings from standard 80/20 bronze and phosphor bronze alternatives.
This Extra Light set features a .010 high E through to a .050 low E gauge configuration across all six strings. Each string uses a hex–shaped steel core wire wrapped with the bell bronze alloy winding, manufactured at Ernie Ball's California facility. The lighter gauges require less finger pressure for fretting and bending while maintaining adequate tension for accurate intonation. The bell bronze alloy's copper–dominant composition generates brighter high–frequency response compared to phosphor bronze, with faster note attack and more immediate transient response that suits fingerstyle players and strummers recording in studio environments.
