Capturing the essence of Gibson™ Mastertone models from the 1950s and 1960s, the Epiphone Mastertone Bowtie Open Back Banjo brings vintage "Bowtie" cosmetics to modern players at an accessible price point. This high-quality instrument combines classic styling with practical features that make it suitable for both clawhammer/frailing and Scruggs style playing techniques.
The banjo features a 26.4" scale length mahogany neck with satin finish, topped by Gibson’s distinctive "scroll-style" headstock adorned with a mother-of-pearl Epiphone logo and Gibson Crown inlays. The bound laurel fretboard contains 22 frets and showcases the classic mother-of-pearl Bowtie inlays that give this model its name, plus a Mastertone block inlay positioned at the fretboard’s end.
Construction centres around a layered mahogany rim paired with a simple hoop tone ring, while the 11" Remo® Fiberskyn® head is secured by a notched nickel tension hoop and 24 nickel hooks. The Fiberskyn head produces warm, full-range tones with vintage character, offering outstanding definition alongside enhanced mid and low-range resonance. A premium gig bag completes the package.
