The legendary automotive designer Ray Dietrich's groundbreaking guitar design lives on in the Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom 1963 Firebird I, bringing authentic vintage specifications within reach of today's players. This remarkable collaboration between Epiphone and the Gibson Custom Shop recreates Gibson's first neck-through-body model from 1963, a guitar that has graced the hands of blues legend Johnny Winter, The Rolling Stones' Keith Richards and Brian Jones, Eric Clapton, and Roxy Music's Phil Manzanera.
The construction stays true to the original with a 9-ply neck-through-body crafted from mahogany and walnut, complemented by mahogany body wings on either side. Kluson® planetary geared "banjo" tuners secure the strings at the headstock, while the Wraparound Lightning Bar bridge provides exceptional sustain and anchors the opposite end with vintage-correct styling.
Premium electronics maintain the stripped-down approach of the original 1963 Firebird I whilst ensuring authentic tone through a Gibson USA Firebird mini humbucker™ pickup featuring Alnico 5 magnets. The signal path includes CTS® potentiometers, a Mallory® capacitor, and a Switchcraft® 1/4" output jack, ensuring this recreation captures both the visual appeal and classic sound of the original. An Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom hardshell case completes the package.
