The mandolin's rich heritage traces back to Orville Gibson's groundbreaking invention of the modern mandolin, with Epiphone carrying this legacy forward since the company's inception. Anastasios Stathopoulo, Epiphone's founder, secured his first and only patent in 1909 for a mandolin design, establishing the instrument as fundamental to the brand's identity. The legendary F–5 mandolin, crafted by Gibson Master Luthier Lloyd Loar in the early 1920s, became so influential that its success helped birth entirely new musical genres, including bluegrass.
Epiphone's latest offering, the Inspired by Gibson F–5 Studio mandolin, draws directly from Loar's iconic F–5 design whilst making this premium style more accessible to musicians. The instrument showcases all–solid wood construction, featuring a solid maple back and sides paired with a solid Sitka spruce top for exceptional tonal quality.
Construction details include a maple neck secured to the body via a traditional glued dovetail joint, complemented by a laurel fretboard spanning 20 frets. The Gibson–style scroll headstock houses vintage–style tuners with pearloid buttons, maintaining authentic visual appeal. The mandolin produces a balanced, highly resonant tone with impressive projection, enhanced by its thin satin finish that allows the wood to breathe naturally. A premium gig bag comes included with purchase.
