The Futura SG Custom is Epiphone's contemporary take on Gibson's legendary double–cutaway design, first introduced in 1961. This mahogany solidbody retains the classic SG proportions and aggressive aesthetic while incorporating forward–thinking electronics and hardware. The standout feature is the colour–shifting Nitro Shift finish—a striking visual statement that photographs well for content creation and stands out under stage lighting. Built for players who demand both tone and versatility without compromise.
Construction centres on a glued–in mahogany neck with a Modern C profile and 22 stainless steel medium jumbo frets across a bound ebony fingerboard. The compound radius (10–14 inches) balances open chording with smooth bending across the fretboard. The LockTone Tune–O–Matic bridge and Stop Bar tailpiece ensure tuning stability and sustain. Epiphone's new ProBucker® Ignite humbuckers drive the signal path, with dual push/pull controls unlocking coil–split and phase options for expanded tonal range. Grover® Rotomatic® locking tuners and a Graph Tech® nut complete the hardware spec.
This configuration makes the Futura SG Custom suitable across studio tracking, live performance, and high–definition video work. The tonal versatility—from thick, saturated humbucker output to split–coil articulation and phase–reversed character—accommodates everything from blues and rock to heavier genres and experimental soundscapes. The included gig bag provides essential protection for transport and storage.
