The Epiphone Futura RD Custom resurrects the cult-status Gibson RD design–a 1977 original that blended Explorer and Firebird aesthetics into an unmistakable silhouette. This reissue splits the difference between retro credibility and modern capability, pairing a sculpted mahogany body with a 25.5” scale neck and contemporary electronics. The Nitro Shift finish delivers the colour-shifting aesthetic without sacrificing the instrument’s structural integrity or tonal character, making it equally at home in the studio and on stage.

Construction centres on a mahogany body with 7-ply top binding and contoured back, anchored by a LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge and LockTone Stop Bar for rock-solid intonation and sustain. The neck sports a Modern C profile with a bound ebony fingerboard, 22 stainless steel medium jumbo frets, and a 10”–14” compound radius that accommodates both tight chording and aggressive bends. Electronics feature a pair of Epiphone ProBucker Ignite humbuckers–newly designed units delivering articulate, high-clarity tone–with push/pull volume and tone controls unlocking coil-splitting and phase switching for tonal flexibility. Locking Grover® Rotomatic® tuners and a Graph Tech nut round out the hardware spec.

The 647.70 mm scale length makes the Futura RD Custom well-suited to drop tunings and lower registers, a practical advantage for modern production styles. The combination of stainless steel frets, compound radius, and Posi-Lok strap buttons addresses both playability and reliability concerns that touring musicians and content creators face.
