Kirk Hammett's legendary 1979 Flying V has carved its place in heavy metal history, appearing on every classic Metallica album from Kill 'Em All through to The Black Album. This iconic Gibson was Kirk's first from the legendary manufacturer and sparked his lifelong passion for Gibson guitars. Originally purchased because Kirk admired famous Flying V™ players and sought a fuller sound, this instrument became one of the most significant heavy metal guitars ever recorded.
Epiphone has partnered with the Gibson Custom Shop to create the Kirk Hammett 1979 Flying V, a meticulous recreation of Kirk's prized original that he continues to play today. The guitar features authentic construction with a mahogany body and one–piece mahogany neck complete with volute, staying true to the specifications that made the original so special.
Premium appointments include Grover® Rotomatic® machine heads with “spade” buttons and a custom bridge, while the electronics showcase Gibson USA Calibrated T–Type humbucker™ pickups wired to CTS® potentiometers and an Orange Drop® capacitor. A Switchcraft® 3–way pickup selector toggle switch and 1/4” output jack complete the professional specification. The guitar comes with Kirk Hammett's signature logo on the rear headstock and includes a black hard–shell case featuring a red plush interior.
