EarthQuaker Devices Hizumitas Fuzz Sustainar Guitar Pedal (Wata Signature)

Born from the crushing sonic vision of Wata, the guitar sorceress behind Japan's legendary experimental heavyweights Boris, the Hizumitas represents a meticulous recreation of her signature Elk BM Sustainar distortion pedal. This isn't just another fuzz box – it's the result of EQD's dedicated pursuit to capture the exact tonal characteristics that have powered nearly 100 releases of genre-melting music from one of Japan's most influential heavy acts.

The development process revealed the unique magic within Wata's original Elk pedal, a Japanese variant of the renowned 'Triangle' Big Muff Pi. After comparing multiple vintage units and finding each wildly different, EQD knew they needed the source itself. Wata's generous loan of her cherished pedal from halfway across the globe allowed the team to decode its special formula: crushing saturation paired with gritty edge and massive low-end response, all while maintaining the clarity and dynamic range essential for cutting through the densest sludge.

The Hizumitas excels with its responsive character that adapts beautifully to different pickup configurations and playing styles. Its Tone and Sustain controls provide significant shaping capabilities over the distortion's personality, while the Volume control offers abundant headroom – unity sits around 9-10 o'clock, with everything beyond primed for sonic destruction. Built with an all-analogue signal path, true bypass, silent relay switching, and backed by a lifetime warranty, this pedal stands ready to unleash the same crushing tones that have defined Boris's legendary sound.
