This humbucker recreates the tonal character of the original Patent Applied For pickups that defined late–1950s guitar tone. DiMarzio's PAF reissue uses Alnico 2 magnets and vintage–spec coil winding to deliver the warm midrange focus and articulate treble response that made the originals legendary. The Vintage Worn Nickel finish replicates the aged aesthetic of genuine period hardware, offering an authentic visual match for restoration projects and vintage–inspired builds.
Output measures 7.7k ohms in the bridge position, sitting comfortably in classic PAF territory for dynamic response and clarity under varying pick attack. Alnico 2 magnetic material provides lower magnetic pull compared to Alnico 5, allowing strings to vibrate more freely and producing sweeter highs with less aggressive compression. The four–conductor wiring enables coil splitting and series/parallel switching options, expanding tonal range beyond traditional humbucker configurations. Unpotted coils retain the microphonic subtleties and harmonic complexity characteristic of 1950s construction.
