DiMarzio’s EP1108 is a 3-position DPDT mini toggle that traces its lineage to 1974, when Larry DiMarzio sourced these compact switches from a Radio Row closeout bin and integrated them into the original Dual Sound® pickup wiring scheme. The toggle’s ability to rewire coils between series and parallel configurations delivered two distinct tonal characters whilst maintaining full hum cancellation–a design principle that has remained foundational to guitar electronics for five decades.
The EP1108 features a threaded shaft measuring 11/32” in height with a standard 1/4” diameter, making it a genuine space-saver for crowded electronics cavities. Installation includes two mounting nuts, a finish washer, and a saw-tooth lock washer for secure, rattle-free operation. Since its adoption by BC Rich in 1975, the switch has enabled countless creative wiring scenarios–coil tapping, pickup selection, phase reversal, and hybrid signal routing–as documented on Al Di Meola’s modified Les Pauls across his landmark Elegant Gypsy and Casino releases.
Guitarists working within tight cavities who require expanded switching architecture may also consider DiMarzio’s EP1111 4PDT toggle, which accommodates four independent circuits. Technical documentation and wiring schematics are available through DiMarzio’s support line at +1 (718) 816-8112, Monday to Friday, 11:00 AM–3:00 PM Eastern Time, or via tech@dimarzio.com.
