DiMarzio's Transition Neck Humbucker is a passive pickup engineered for Steve Lukather's signature Music Man LIII™ guitar. Built with vintage humbucker DNA but sharper attitude, this nickel–cover design delivers organic tone with punch and edge. The neck model performs fast and direct, designed to own its sound across studio and stage work.
The Transition Neck combines vintage PAF–style output with modern responsiveness. Passive construction means no batteries or active circuitry–just raw signal from coil to cable. The humbucker configuration provides hum cancellation without sacrificing clarity or dynamics. Nickel plating on the cover reduces high–end harshness while maintaining articulation, making it responsive to pick attack and finger technique across jazz, rock, and fusion styles.
Lukather tracked the entire Transition album using this pickup, proving its range across clean, crunch, and lead tones. The neck position sits perfectly paired with its bridge counterpart, though it works equally well as a standalone upgrade. Installation suits any guitar with standard humbucker routing and 4–conductor wiring capability.
