The legendary FOXX® Tone Machine® that once sold for $49 in the 1970s now commands over $600 on the vintage market — a testament to its iconic status among guitarists worldwide. Originally created by Danelectro® owner Steve Ridinger, this groundbreaking pedal helped define the sound of an era with its distinctive octave fuzz capabilities.
Steve Ridinger has now revived his classic circuit with several crucial improvements that address the limitations of the original design. The octave effect has been made significantly more pronounced and can now be engaged or bypassed via a dedicated footswitch, giving players greater control over their sound. Additionally, the tone has been refined to produce a warmer character that sits beautifully in any mix.
Perhaps most importantly, Ridinger has added a “mids boost” toggle switch that counteracts the mid-frequency cut that was inherent in the original pedal design. This enhancement ensures the pedal cuts through dense arrangements while maintaining that signature velvet tone that made the FOXX® Tone Machine® a studio and stage favourite decades ago.
