The legendary Roland SDE-3000 delay unit from 1983 has been reborn as the SDE-3000D, bringing the iconic rackmount's revered sound to a modern floor pedal format. This dual-engine delay pedal faithfully recreates the warm, musical character that made the original a studio and stage favourite among world-class guitarists and engineers throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Unlike the clinical precision of typical digital delays, the SDE-3000's distinctive voice came from its complex internal processing and nonlinear analogue behaviours, creating the beautiful warm tones that became integral to countless classic recordings.
Roland's meticulous analysis of the original hardware has resulted in an authentic reproduction that captures every nuance of the SDE-3000's character. The SDE-3000D features two independent delay engines with all the original parameters, including the crucial dual delay ranges with their distinct frequency characteristics and the unique external feedback loop colouration. Enhanced modulation capabilities now include both the original triangle wave LFO and a new sine wave option, while expanded phase control options provide greater sonic flexibility than the vintage unit.
Modern versatility comes through flexible routing options that allow parallel stereo operation or series chaining for complex rhythmic patterns. The pedal accommodates various rig configurations with comprehensive I/O options for stereo, wet/dry, or dual-output setups. Three onboard footswitches handle memory selection, tap tempo, and delay hold functions, while external control is possible via footswitches, expression pedals, or MIDI connectivity. With 100 memory locations compared to the original's eight, plus carryover switching and extensive real-time parameter control, the SDE-3000D brings this classic delay sound into the contemporary music-making environment.
