The Roland RE-202 Space Echo recreates the magic of one of music history's most revered effect units, bringing the legendary tape-based delay that shaped countless recordings into the modern era. Originally introduced in 1974, the RE-201 Space Echo remained in production for over 14 years and continues to inspire musicians and producers four decades later with its distinctive rhythmic echoes, warm character, and unique sonic quirks. This advanced pedal captures every nuance of the original through intensive research and development, faithfully reproducing the magnetic tape behaviour, motor properties, vibrant spring reverb, and colourful preamp circuit that made the RE-201 a benchmark product.

Built using exhaustive analysis of several vintage RE-201 units, including a pristine original from the BOSS and Roland factory archive, the RE-202 goes far beyond previous recreations. The engineering team has fully reproduced all the complex, non-linear behaviours that contribute to the Space Echo's immortal character, from tape path mechanics and motor variations to preamp colouration and spring reverb characteristics. Every control behaves exactly like the original, including the iconic 12-position mode selector, gradual pitch changes when adjusting the Repeat Rate, and the distinctive runaway feedback when the Intensity is maxed out.

The RE-202 expands on the vintage foundation with modern enhancements tailored for today's musicians. It offers twice the delay time of the original, adds a fourth virtual tape head for five additional sound combinations, and provides true stereo I/O with selectable guitar or line-level operation. Beyond the classic spring reverb, additional reverb types including hall, plate, room, and ambience are available, while expressive Warp and Twist effects can launch sounds into new sonic territories. Four onboard memories store favourite settings, with 123 more accessible via MIDI, plus tap tempo, delay carryover options, and expanded control through external footswitches, expression pedals, and comprehensive MIDI implementation.
