The Blackstar Fly 3 is a 3–watt compact mini amp that prioritises genuine tonal depth over sheer portability. Rather than treating size as an excuse to cut corners, Blackstar's design philosophy treats low–volume performance seriously–maintaining the tonal balance and responsive feel expected from larger rigs. The amp features two channels (Clean and Overdrive), patented Infinite Shape Feature (ISF) for real–time tone shaping, and onboard delay effects, making it viable for bedroom sessions, studio demos, and silent–practice scenarios where headphone isolation matters.
Construction centres on a sealed and tuned cabinet housing a 3–inch full–range driver, eliminating the need for a subwoofer and the signal degradation that crossovers introduce. The cabinet material is mathematically modelled to replicate wood's Young's Modulus, preserving bass response that typically suffers in compact enclosures. Control surface includes Gain, Volume, ISF (EQ), Delay Time, and Delay Level parameters. Connectivity spans headphone/emulated output, line–in, DC input, and FLY 103 external speaker out. Power derives from six AA batteries or DC supply, while dimensions (30.4 cm H × 33.8 cm W × 36.7 cm D) and 1 kg weight keep the amp genuinely portable.
