Blackmagic Design's Teranex AV is a broadcast–grade standards converter engineered for live events, professional AV installations, and post–production workflows. The unit delivers 1,089 conversion combinations across all formats up to 2160p60, powered by Blackmagic's proprietary algorithms and established image processing pedigree. Built around dual 12G–SDI inputs and quad SDI outputs, the Teranex AV handles simultaneous connections whilst maintaining low latency throughout the signal chain. Its versatility makes it indispensable for facilities bridging legacy and modern infrastructure.
Connectivity spans professional and consumer domains: 12G–SDI and 3G–SDI inputs with reclocked loop outputs, HDMI 2.0 video I/O with active loop support, 16 channels of SDI audio (48 kHz, 24–bit HD), 8 channels via HDMI, XLR balanced audio, RCA unbalanced inputs, and optional SMPTE optical fibre. The unit supports 10–bit 4:2:2 colour sampling in REC 601 and REC 709 colour spaces, with Dolby® AC–3 passthrough across all conversions and Dolby® E preservation except during frame rate changes. Processing includes real–time aspect ratio conversion, noise reduction, cadence detection, scene cut detection, and colour correction with 2–frame latency on select formats. A built–in still store captures frames to non–volatile memory, whilst freeze frame and test pattern generation provide essential troubleshooting and broadcast compliance tools.
Remote control operates via USB Type–C (firmware updates) and Gigabit Ethernet, with onscreen menu navigation through illuminated pushbuttons and status LEDs. The unit consumes 42 watts and operates between 0–40 °C. Metal rear brackets prevent cable damage in tight rack installations. Support for VITC and ATC timecode, WSS video indexing, and SMPTE closed captioning (608/708) rounds out compliance for demanding production environments.
