The mic operates in both passive and active modes, featuring a built-in Class A preamp that provides 40dB of clean boost when 48V phantom power is detected, eliminating the need for additional gain lifting devices.

The chassis design prioritises exceptional off-axis rejection while ingenious internal shock absorption minimises handling and vibration noise. Developed in partnership with 92 top engineers, producers and artists – collectively known as the ‘Aston 33’ after the founding members – the microphone underwent extensive blind listening tests to perfect its four voice settings: Vocal 1, Vocal 2, Guitar and Dark.
