The Arturia BeatStep redefines what a portable pad controller can achieve, combining intuitive performance capabilities with professional-grade sequencing power. This highly versatile device excels at triggering clips in applications like Ableton Live whilst simultaneously providing exceptional drum performance capabilities when paired with software such as BFD or EZDrummer.
At its core, the BeatStep functions as a comprehensive 16-step analogue sequencer, perfect for crafting musical phrases that can be sent to analogue synthesisers, MIDI drum machines, keyboard devices, or computer programs. The unit’s extensive connectivity options make it incredibly flexible – interface with your computer or iPad via USB, connect to drum modules through MIDI, or link directly to analogue synthesisers using CV/GATE connections.
The BeatStep features dual operational modes indicated by LED colours: MIDI controller mode (red LED) and step sequencer mode (blue LED). With 16 velocity and pressure-sensitive pads, 16 encoders, and storage for 16 MIDI controller presets plus 16 sequence presets, this device offers substantial creative potential. Additional professional features include compatibility with MIDI Control Centre Editor, internal and external clocking options, CV outputs, and full iPad compatibility using the camera connection kit.
Built for both studio and live performance, the BeatStep operates as a USB class-compliant device requiring no drivers, and can function standalone when powered via a standard USB power adaptor. Transport controls can send MIDI CC or MMC, whilst the inclusion of a Kensington Lock ensures security during live performances.
